‘Big Girl, Big Moves’: Naledi Aphiwe Celebrates Renovating Her Parents’ Home at 19

by Zaghrah Anthony

At just 19, Naledi Aphiwe has already proven she’s not just a rising star in South Africa’s music scene—she’s a young woman making power moves. The award-winning singer and songwriter recently revealed that she has renovated her parents’ home in KwaZulu-Natal, a milestone many only dream of achieving much later in life.

Sharing her pride with fans on TikTok and Instagram, Aphiwe posted a video tour highlighting the newly refurbished home. The sleek kitchen, modern living spaces, and stylish updates reflect her personal touch and dedication to giving back to the family that supported her journey.

“Renovated my home, I’m so proud of myself. Big girl, big moves. Please continue supporting me ngizowenza okukhulu kakhulu ekhaya (I will do more at home). I wouldn’t have been here if you guys weren’t here to support me,” she wrote in her caption, combining humility with a confident nod to her growing success.

From Viral Sensation to Global Recognition

Aphiwe’s journey has been meteoric. In 2022, international superstar Chris Brown stumbled upon a viral clip of her singing and shared it on his Instagram stories, praising her “incredible” voice. By 2023, she had already featured on his 11th studio album, 11:11, with the track “Shooter”, earning R56,207 (around $3,000) in royalties—a life-changing moment for the teenager.

Despite her rising career, she managed to complete her matric in 2024 with a bachelor’s pass, balancing academics with an increasingly demanding music schedule—a feat that fans and peers alike found inspiring.

Since then, she has released her own singles and collaborated with South African rapper Blxckie, further cementing her reputation as one of the country’s most promising young talents.
