South Africa’s music community is reeling after news that DJ and producer Chymamusique was involved in a tragic car accident on the N1 near Ysterberg Mountain, outside Polokwane, that claimed five lives, including fellow artist DJ Poizen.
For Chymamusique, whose real name is Collen Mmotla, survival feels nothing short of divine intervention. The accident happened on Saturday morning, 30 August, leaving him and one other person injured and rushed to hospital.

“200% a Miracle”
Earlier this week, the producer shared a photo of himself from a hospital bed following his release from ICU after four surgeries. His message to fans carried the raw weight of his experience:
“If you ever doubt God, hit me up in October. What I’m witnessing is 200% a miracle.”
In another emotional post, he added:
“God, you know why. You’re the author and finisher of our lives. Sorry, and please help us all. We are your children, and we have seen your powerful hand. May we find healing and strength for each day of our lives.”
His management team confirmed he is still hospitalised and awaiting one final surgery but is stable.

Saying Goodbye to DJ Poizen
Among the lives lost was Calvin Masetla, widely known in the music industry as DJ Poizen, a rising producer whose work had begun carving a name in South Africa’s vibrant house and amapiano scene.
Chymamusique shared a deeply personal farewell to his friend, writing:
“See you in heaven, mchana (my friend). I spent the last few minutes of your life with you. #RIPPoizen.”
The loss has left a heavy mark on the industry, with fans and fellow artists flooding social media with tributes to Poizen, remembering him not only for his music but for his warmth and promise as a creative force.
I still can’t believe this was his last project he gave us… May your soul rest in peace my brother..

A Community in Mourning
The tragedy has sparked an outpouring of grief from across South Africa’s entertainment world. On X (formerly Twitter), fans described Poizen as a “gentle soul gone too soon,” while others praised Chymamusique’s strength and faith in the wake of such trauma.
Local DJs and producers have also called for reflection on road safety, noting that the industry already mourns too many young talents lost to car accidents over the years. For many, this crash is a painful reminder of the fragility of life on and off stage.
It’s starting to sink in that Poizen is gone. 💔 He used his talent to glorify God and heal others. A generational talent has been lost, and so many more were meant to benefit from his gift. Death, don’t be proud. 🕊️ #RIPPoizen pic.twitter.com/5W22dweAP1

More Than Survival
Chymamusique’s recovery has become a point of hope for fans who see his journey as more than just physical healing—it’s a story of resilience, faith, and survival. His words resonate with a broader South African audience, where road accidents are tragically common, claiming thousands of lives annually.
As tributes continue to pour in for DJ Poizen, Chymamusique’s survival feels like a bittersweet gift: a reminder to cherish life, celebrate community, and keep alive the music of those no longer with us.
