A$AP Rocky opens up about why his friendship with Drake ended

Fans of hip hop have long speculated about the tension between A$AP Rocky and Drake, and now Rocky has finally offered his take. In a recent chat with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, the Harlem rapper dropped hints that the fallout wasn’t about music—it was about women.

“It’s about females”

When Ebro asked if there was “really an issue” with Drake, Rocky responded ambiguously: “Please do.” That alone sent Twitter into overdrive. Fans quickly connected the dots to Rocky’s latest track, Stole Ya Flow, from his new album Don’t Be Dumb, which contains lyrics like, “You been stealin’ flows, tryna play my part.” Social media went wild, debating whether these lines were directed at Drake.

Rocky didn’t hold back on the underlying cause of their rift. “We were once friends… I feel like it’s over females,” he said. “I feel like he wasn’t happy and he expressed that. At some point, when everyone’s getting older, you’re supposed to be moving on. For you to still be pickin’ at a female and all that, that’s soft to me.” He added that he had no intention of responding directly with music.

The Rihanna connection

The history that fuels this tension is no secret. Both Drake and Rocky have long-standing ties to Rihanna, and her past relationships with the two have lingered in the public eye. Fans have speculated for years about lines in Drake’s 2023 album For All the Dogs, particularly on the track “Fear of Heights,” as subtle nods to Rihanna and her relationship with Rocky. Lines such as “Better him than me / Better it’s not me” and references to Barbados have fans convinced there’s a personal story behind the lyrics.

Rocky, however, stresses that this isn’t a full-blown feud. “I think hip hop tactics and beefs is, like, WWF. It’s like wrestling all the way… but this thing between us, it’s not real smoke. I didn’t put out an album to really say something back,” he said. In other words, Rocky’s track may be playful trolling more than a direct call-out.

No punches thrown, just entertainment

Despite the drama brewing online, Rocky’s comments make it clear that this is not a feud that will spill into violence or legal action. Instead, it’s a mix of personal history, lyrical barbs, and the unavoidable spotlight that comes with celebrity relationships. Fans are left watching, waiting to see if Drake will respond—or simply let the streams roll.

In the end, it’s another chapter in the ongoing saga of hip hop friendships, romance, and the way personal lives inevitably bleed into music. And for now, Rocky is letting the music—and social media chatter—do the talking.
