Congratulations are in order for South African actress, Zikhona Sodlaka as she takes on a new role on a show called Gqebera: The empire.

The Telenovela was shot in the Eastern Cape by Tshedza pictures, with a storyline about the world of shipping.

The Xhosa telenovela replaces The Queen on Mzansi magic and is set to air from 16 January 2023 at 21:00 pm.

Zikhona will play a sister wife called Bulelwa in her new acting role. Amongst the cast members of this new telenovela, are Mzansi’s best actors from The Queen former actress, Zandile Msutwana, Phila Madlingozi, Ayanda Mkayi and many more actors from the Eastern Cape.

The actress takes the role shortly after she has exited her much loved character called Mandisa on The Wife, a fan favorite on the show where she was the on-screen wife of Abdul Khoza. After exiting The wife, she left her fans saying that the character has taught her “To say yes in the face of adversity and be careful to through stones.”

After exiting The Wife, Zikhona spoke to Eyewitness news about how much it means to her seeing the character resonating with a lot of viewers. She appreciated playing the feisty character Mandisa and everything it has taught her. The actress said “It’s very interesting to see how people receive your work, but what surprised me the most was how the character rested in many peoples’ hearts. People receiving Mandisa like that is exactly how I wanted them to and it is overwhelming.”

Showmax online did a short tribute to this African queen as referred to by her fans, on how she embodied the character Mandisa.
