Mercedes Benz unveils self-driving Future Bus

Mercedes Benz just unveiled it’s first ever self-driving Future Bus with CityPilot. The bus doesn’t utilise drivers. It actually drives itself using cameras positioned at strategic points throughout the city to navigate. The German car manufacturer debuted the bus this week and took it out for a 20km test drive in the Netherlands.

Daimler  states that this is how it works:

The CityPilot is able to recognise traffic lights, communicate with them and safely negotiate junctions controlled by them. It can also recognise obstacles, especially pedestrians on the road, and brake autonomously. It approaches bus stops automatically, where it opens and closes its doors. And not least, it is able to drive through tunnels.

This is truly incredible and Mercedes Benz have outdone themselves. From what we can see, travelling in one of these will surely make for a safe and smooth ride for commuters. It’ll also probably  reduce the high number of accidents on the road because we’re doing away with human error. We can’t wait for it launch worldwide.

Check it out in action and let us know what you think.
