BONA Man #BeChampion Editor’s Letter

by Koketso Masuluke
BONA Man #BeChampion

Our Editor Bongiwe Tshiqi breaks down the latest BONA Man issue and what it represents.

BONA Man #BeChampion Editor’s Letter

The concept of manhood has always been precarious. We grew up being told phrases such as; men don’t cry, men are the leaders of the family or men are the heads and women the necks.

These ideologies, as well as many others that have been propagated by society, have led to many examples of men who don’t know how to express strength, weakness or fear. Is it any wonder then that rape and abuse by men are at an all-time high? Conversations on the media and social platforms paint a bleak picture of men who are struggling to find their place in the world and instead become defensive when criticised or questioned.

BONA Man #BeChampion

It is because of this that BONA Man was excited to partner with Carling Black Label in an effort to start engaging in a conversation around manhood, and how men perceive it. These stories of men who overcame incredible obstacles (both from an emotional and socio-economic perspective) to carve out a new path are a great inspiration. They also prove that the battle is not yet lost. I hope you are motivated by these incredible stories of humility, strength and brotherhood so that you can carry the torch forward. #ChampionMen
