5 Grant’s Whisky Cocktails You Must Try This Festive

After all these years Grant’s whisky is still a taste worth sharing. We found some amazing cocktails on their website and thought we’d share our favourites with you to prepare for friends and family over the festive season.

1. Grant’s Penicillin Whisky Cocktail

Ingredients

  • 2 parts Grant’s whisky
  • ¾ part fresh lemon juice
  • ¾ part honey syrup
  • 3 slices fresh ginger
  • ¼ part single malt Scotch

Method

Mash the ginger into the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Add the Grant’s, lemon juice, honey syrup and ice and shake for 20 seconds. Strain into ice-filled rocks glasses. Pour the single malt over the back of a bar spoon so it floats at the top.

2. Grant’s Girvan Sour Whisky Cocktail

Ingredients

  • 2 parts Grant’s whisky
  • 1 part lemon juice
  • ½ part sugar syrup
  • ½ part egg white

Method

Shake up all the ingredients with ice for about 20 seconds, then strain into a large rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with a cherry and orange slice.

3. Grant’s Manhattan Whisky Cocktail

Ingredients

  • 50ml Grant’s (Recommended blend: Family Reserve Whisky)
  • 12.5ml red vermouth
  • 12.5ml extra dry Vermouth
  • 10ml Marashino cherry syrup
  • 2 dashes of orange bitters
  • 1 dash of Angostura bitters
  • Optional: dash of sugar syrup

Method

Add all the ingredients together and stir on ice. Pour into glass. Garnish with a twist of orange zest and a maraschino cherry.

4. Grant’s Blood and Sand Whisky Cocktail

Ingredients

  • 1 part Grant’s whisky
  • 1 part freshly squeezed orange juice
  • ¾ part sweet vermouth
  • ¾ part cherry brandy

Method

Shake up all the ingredients with ice for about 10 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a cherry.

5. Grant’s Hot Toddy Whisky Cocktail

Ingredients

  • 2 parts Grant’s whisky
  • Boiling water
  • 4 to 6 cloves
  • 1 Lemon twist
  • 2 tsp Demerara sugar or brown sugar
  • ¼ Lemon juice

Method

Fill a mug with boiling water and let stand for 1-2 minutes. Meanwhile stick cloves into lemon twist and set aside. Empty the mug and fill about halfway with fresh boiling water. Stir in the sugar and prepared lemon twist. Then stir in the lemon juice and Grant’s.

Don’t forget! The Sandton Convention Centre will be hosting the anticipated 12th annual FNB Whisky Live Festival this week. It’s the largest whisky tasting show in Africa  attracting close to 12 000 whisky lovers and showcasing some of the world’s finest single malts and blends. It takes place from the 11- 13 November 2015.
