4 ways to get the most out of your make-up brushes

After watching more YouTube tutorials than you’d like to admit, and reading our super informative articles, you’ve finally taken the plunge and invested in more than one make-up brush to help you put on your face – best decision ever, right?!

Because a good set of make-up brushes are better for your skin in the long run, we know that they could have set you back a pretty penny, so you want to make sure you get your bang for your buck.

Find out how to get the most out of your make-up brushes…

1. Clean your make-up brushes regularly. This is the first and most important step in making them last longer and doing their job better, which ultimately benefits the condition of your skin in the long run. Product build-up will damage the bristles of the brush, prevent your make-up from going onto your face evenly, and transfer dirt, grime and bacteria onto your skin which will clog your pores and cause beak-outs.

2. Use the right brush for the right task. While certain brushes are interchangeable, like your powder brush and blush brush, some quite simply aren’t, and your make-up application won’t be as great as it could be. Spend a little bit of time familiarising yourself with exactly which brush performs what task. Knowing which brush is used to apply make-up to the crease of your eye, for example, will prevent the dreaded raccoon eye.

3. Don’t press too hard. An even application of make-up doesn’t require you to press hard; in fact, you hardly need any pressure at all. This is better for application and blending, so pay attention to whether or not your bristles are bending while you’re swiping the brush on your face, as they shouldn’t bend. Also, be sure to tap off excess product before applying it to your face.

4. Play around with your brushes. Now that you’ve watched all of those tutorials on YouTube, put all that info to good use and get experimenting. The only way you will truly get the most out of your make-up brushes is if you actually get comfortable using them, and this comes with a lot practice and plenty of trial and error. The more confident you are with your brushes, the quicker and more flawless your make-up will be.
