Refilwe Modiselle on self-love

by Bridgette Matjuda

Recently, multi-talented media personality Refilwe Modiselle took to social media to air her concerns following a Date My Family episode in which a woman being interview kept referring to people living with albinism as ‘Albino people’.

Her fear is that producers of the show should have gone out of their way to correct her, to curb the perpetuation of stigma against people living with albinism.

Earlier this year we spoke to Refilwe about landing the Brutal Fruit #bravetoloveme campaign and she spoke openly about having self love.

Self-love is about accepting and loving your flaws. But, this is easier said than done. So, you need to commit to a long journey in order to reap the rewards. During this journey, you will understand who you are and why you are created the way you are. You need to find your inner beauty and allow that to radiate from within.

I practise self-love by being content with myself. I don’t let other people’s perception of who I am define me because I know and love myself. I take care of myself by nurturing my emotional and physical well-being.

Over the years, I have learnt important lessons on self-love. Firstly, I have learnt that nobody is going to love me the way I love myself. This has helped me to teach people how to treat me because I know my worth. We all have flaws, and embracing them allows you to live fearlessly without hiding who you are.
