Trademark & Zinhle Ngidi are introducing a new genre of music

Production duo, Trademark and vocalist Zinhle Ngidi made quite an entrance in the SA music industry when they featured on Durban Nights’ smash hit Shumaya in 2015. They haven’t looked back since and now have a self-titled album out. We spoke to them about the new music genre they’re introducing through their self-titled album, the main reason they do music and they also have some valuable advice for up & coming musicians.

1.How are you guys settling in the industry?

We’re settling in great. We have a team that advises us and helps to keep a level head with all the fame.

2. Who have you worked with on this album?

We have worked with DJ Kuchi from Botswana on a song called Far Away, Lady Du features on Yekel Indoda Yami and Thula from Muungu Africa on Hlala Nami.

3. What do you aspire to do with your music?

We aspire to make people feel good about themselves no matter what situation they’re in.

4. Why should people go and buy it?

Our album is quite unique. We’re introducing our fans to a genre of music called ‘Sgitsha Soul. Everyone who enjoys a fun sound with soothing vocals will love it.

5. How has the reception been for your new single Ngiyavalelisa?

People love it which has resulted in the track being playlisted on different radio stations across the country and also the UK.

6. What advice do you have for aspiring artists who are struggling to break into the industry?

They must keep perfecting their craft and bring something unique. They’re too many talented artists in the industry, find what makes you stand out.

7. What are your biggest challenges at the moment?

Honestly we don’t have any right now. Our management team does a great job in helping us realise our goals.
