15 Characters We Love On Generations

by Bona staff

Generations, founded and produced by Mfundi Vundla was first aired in 1994 on SABC 1. With a viewership of more than 7 milliion, it is one of the most successful soapies in the country. Even with 16 of their principal actors having recently been fired, the entire nation, including us at BONA, is waiting in anticipation about the future of the soapie. We have picked 15 of our favourite characters we hope we will be seeing back on Generations once their issue is resolved.

Queen Moroka

Sophie-Ndaba

“Daaah-ling!” Queen is the full-time diva, single mother to Princie and part-owner of Ezweni Communications who has been on our television screens for more than two decades. Although Sophie Ndaba had initially auditioned for the role of Karabo Moroka, we are glad she landed Queen, whose unique character has formed lasting memories in our homes and hearts.

Sibusiso Dlomo

Menzi-Ngubane-

This is the character we love to hate and vice versa. Sibusiso is a gangster-turned-media mogul whose scheming ways and arrogant tactics we cannot help but be addicted to. He is always proving to viewers that “where there is smoke, there is fire.”

Senzo

Thami-Mngqolo

Jason

Zolisa-Xaluva---Jason3)

Emotions ran high in 2009 when this brave couple shared their first kiss and Generations viewers everywhere reacted with awe and shock. Although their relationship has suffered a few knocks since then, they are still one of our favourite (and one of the very few) gay couples on national TV.

Noluntu

Zenande-Mfenyana-0042

MJ

Anga-Makubalo-MJ

Mawande

nambitha-Mpumlwana

If you think money doesn’t grow on trees, you might need to redefine your terms. With a tree like mum Mawande, on-screen siblings Noluntu and MJ are always in autumn, where the leaves just keep falling and they’re there to collect. We love these spoilt brats and it is through them that we know: Money can never buy love.

Khethiwe

Winnie-Modise

The KZN-native has come a long way, from her days of cleaning Tau Mogale’s house to carving a name for herself in the city of gold, Johannesburg. With some skeletons in her closet, Khethiwe often forgets her humble beginnings. Never one to shy away from a dangerous solution to a problem, we are always glued to our screens wondering what this crazy character will do next.

Choppa

choppa

Choppa is always searching for the next great opportunity, hoping to get his big break and we love it. This character is what we would call a “hustler”, even though his ventures do not always hit the jackpot. There surely must be a choppa in every person’s life.

Kenneth Mashaba

Kenneth-Mashaba-

Entering the soapie as a ruthless businessman and rival to Sibusiso Dlomo, Kenneth never fail to shock and entertain. With trophy wife “Dinny” at his side, he was complete. We were thrilled when Kenneth recently came back to our screens after taking a break from the soapie.

Nicholas Nomvete

Thato-Molamu)

This stylish young man seems carefree but smart. He is an independent, mischievous and very charming character that we are helplessly drawn to His relationship status, which is a large part of his character, is complicated by love triangles and baby-mama drama..

Samora

Atandwa-kani-

Atandwa Kani plays Nicholas’ old friend, Samora, a smooth character who first appeared on the soapie on 20 August 2014.

Priska

Zikhona-Sodlaka-

Zikhona Sodlaka who plays Priska, Sibusiso’s new fiancée, is a respected actress whose credentials we cannot begin to mention. We had largely anticipated her character in the soapie.

Dineo

Katlego-Danke-

Katlego Danke, who plays the character of the unstable Dineo has been on the show for a couple years now and we have seen her grow since her days as little Dinny. Dineo started out as a woman who can’t keep her man, we have seen her jump from the father, to the brother and the son (The Mashaba’s). She is the Brooke Logan of Generations.

Mam Ruby

Slindile-Nodangala

Mam’ Ruby is a shebeen queen who is tough and unafraid of anything. She is Dineo’s mother and is always interfering in her daughter’s ever-changing love life. Ruby has always wanted the best for her daughter and Dineo, although a tough cookie herself, will always be mum’s girl.
