More than six years after the breakout success of the 2020 South African romantic comedy hit Seriously Single, fans are finally getting the reunion they have been waiting for.

Directed by sibling duo Katleho and Rethabile Ramaphakela, the highly anticipated sequel, Seriously Single Too, drops on Netflix this Friday, 16 October 2026.

Arriving as part of Netflix’s ongoing celebration of a decade of storytelling in Africa, the film promises another wild ride of friendship, romance, chaos, and hilarious misadventures.

Shifting scenery: Moving the chaos from Joburg to Cape Town

While the first film painted a vibrant, fast-paced corporate and nightlife backdrop of Johannesburg, the sequel takes the dynamic on the road. This time, the story follows inseparable best friends Dineo and Noni as they trade the Gauteng hustle for Cape Town’s scenic views.

The plot kicks off when Noni’s boyfriend pops the question, prompting an ecstatic Dineo to plan an extravagant, over-the-top holiday to celebrate.

Naturally, nothing ever goes according to plan in the Seriously Single universe. The getaway expands to include a chaotic mix of personalities, including a chaotic TikToker and an extended family cousin, turning what was supposed to be a celebratory trip into a hilarious disaster of dating misadventures and emotional reckonings.

Familiar faces and fresh additions

Audiences can look forward to seeing their favourite cast members reprise their iconic roles alongside exciting new additions:

  • Fulu Modibedi (also credited as Fulu Mugovhani) returns as the romance-obsessed Dineo.
  • Tumi Morake is back as the witty, commitment-phobic Noni, ready to deliver more unforgettable one-liners and sharp comedic timing.
  • Yonda Thomas returns as Max, alongside cast additions including Buntu Petse, Keke Mphuthi, and Thabiso Rammusi.

Romance, growth, and modern dating realities

Six years is an eternity in the modern dating world, and the sequel leans heavily into how the landscape of love, social media culture, and independence has evolved.

While the first film explored the stark contrast between wanting a companion versus embracing singlehood, Seriously Single Too dives deeper into the complexities of long-term commitments, friendship dynamics under pressure, and the hilarity of trying to keep up appearances online.

As Mzansi counts down the hours until Friday’s global Netflix release, viewers can expect signature South African wit, stunning fashion, breathtaking Cape Town backdrops, and a heartfelt reminder that navigating your twenties and thirties is messy, beautiful, and better done with a best friend by your side.
