Pearl Thusi back on TV

“Come and meet me at the river,” Pearl said, inviting viewers to tune in to the show in the promotional video shared on 12 October 2026.

The nine-part series produced by Black Brain Pictures will follow the two hosts and a local insider in exploring a province, experiencing the destination through three different spending categories:

  1. Smart Budget of up to R1,050 per day
  2. Flexi Budget of up to R1,250 per day
  3. Luxury Budget of more than R1,250 per day.

According to SABC 1, Pearl says the experience changed how she thinks about travelling at home.

“I think we underestimate what we have in South Africa. What surprised me was just how much you can experience locally, and how affordable it can be. People travel from all over the world to experience this country, yet there is still so much of it that we as South Africans haven’t seen ourselves,” she said.

Lungile, on the other hand, felt the experience highlighted the value of connecting with local communities.

“But what really surprised me was the value of the experience itself. You’re not just paying for a bed, a meal or an activity. You’re meeting people, hearing their stories and experiencing a place through the people who actually live there.”

The show will air every Monday night on SABC 1.

On the global stage

The global actress hasn’t been featured in a local production for the better part of five years, after her last role in Queen Sono in 2020. Thus, this is a welcome return for South African viewers.

Her global career has grown vastly with her recent appearance as Phyllis Wabantu in the second season of the BET original Average Joe and Disney’s animated series Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire.
