Pitso Mosimane interested in Bafana Bafana’s head coach position
According to Sunday World, the South African Football Association (SAFA) revealed that the celebrated athlete submitted his application to succeed Broos after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Technical Committee chairman Jack Maluleke said, “We all know the passion of coach Pitso, his love for the country, and what his profile looks like, but he will also go through the interview process like everyone else because I have over 80 applications with me.”
Maluleke continued that the process would be finalised after the national team returns home from the international tournament, adding:
“[W]e need someone who will come in and get the job started for the upcoming Afcon qualifiers around September.”
In 2010, Mosimane signed a four-year contract as the Bafana Bafana coach, replacing Brazilian Carlos Alberto Parreira after the team was eliminated during the first round of the World Cup.

When will Hugo Broos’ time with Bafana Bafana end?
According to News24, the 74-year-old’s five-year contract ends after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Belgian national expressed his desire to be near his family in his home country. However, Broos hinted at extending his stay in South Africa, possibly lending a hand in the team’s set-up.
South Africans not keen on Pitso Mosimane’s application
Local social media users headed to the X (formerly Twitter) to express their views on Mosimane’s interest in the position.
“Broos has raised the bar so high that I don’t even consider Pitso as a successor,” shared @ItumelengLedw14.
@Tsietsi_Mohale added, “We need Danny Jordan to resign from SAFA. I think Pitso has reached the glass ceiling; he has nothing to offer when it comes to coaching. He must focus on the podcast.”
“We don’t want Pitso. Bafana has an assistant coach who can continue with the current philosophy,” @PHEXA_ told the online community.
@Mbongeleni8412 said, “He had his chance and failed.”
“Sir Pitso has a score to settle,” remarked @SalimMathomane.
