South African politicians have voiced out their feelings surrounding the death of Goolam Mohammed Suliman Vawda, who was reportedly behind the controversial X (formerly Twitter) page.

The 50-year-old man is believed to have been behind the X handle @goolamv – a social media page that was popular for trolling politicians, and was used to spread hate speech, cyberbullying, and defamatory statements targeting political figures and private citizens.

Goolam was found dead in hotel room in Sandton, Johannesburg on Tuesday. The police have opened an inquest into his death, as they wait for postmortem results. Currently, no foul play has been confirmed.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) president, Julius Malema took to his X to weigh in on Goolam’s death.

The devil followed the father; many will soon do the same because they no longer have undue protection. You must suffer in hell, like you tried to do to us in real time bastardw.

The premier of Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi, conveyed his condolences to Goolam’s family.

You may have insulted me and used your handle as a propaganda weapon I will not stoop low. May your family be consoled. #RIPGoolam pic.twitter.com/vf6ayASomP

While businessman, Edwin Sodi was reportedly celebrating Goolam’s death.

While the City of Tshwane can’t find Edwin Sodi to blacklist him & his companies from doing business with govt in South Africa after the deadly Rooiwal wastewater failure, Edwin Sodi is somewhere celebrating the death of Goolam! pic.twitter.com/ojI2khRuGp

X users weighed in:

They killed him, covered their tracks by classifying him as a criminal! I’ve been warning Goolam about trusting the ANC mafias, those guys are heartless!

They always do everything in their power to remove threat! Goolam was one of the best whistleblowers we had on X!

We will… pic.twitter.com/itgfoOmdPY

I don’t know Goolam personally but I know he was the corrupt politicians nightmare. His reporting wasn’t always accuracy bt he always had 1st hand information & that rubbed off many in a wrong way.

He was 1st to speak about men trafficked by Dudu to Russia.#RIPGoolam Boom Boom pic.twitter.com/Jfq6zCyWrU

They lured Goolam to a hotel in Sandton under the promise of money. Instead of paying him as agreed, They killed him. This shows how ruthless some political networks can be.
