Ballot box shock: ANC votes found in Pretoria home – Masuku victory under fire

by Staff Bona

Ballot boxes linked to the ANC’s Greater Johannesburg Regional Conference were found at a private home in Pretoria, raising questions about the integrity of the election that saw Loyiso Masuku elected regional chairperson over Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero.

ANC officials and the police secured the boxes, but it’s unclear how they ended up at the residence or if they were tampered with.

President Cyril Ramaphosa acknowledged the discovery but is waiting for a full report before commenting.

”I am awaiting a comprehensive report on the matter before making any comments,” Ramaphosa told SABC News.

The incident could delay the finalisation of leadership results and may lead to disciplinary or legal action as investigations continue.

Aording to EWN, Khumbudzo Ntshaveni, the ANC’s convenor of deployees in Gauteng, was on site Sunday when police uncovered the ballots.

“It’s important that we safeguard the processes of the ANC and I can’t talk about the details. The report will be submitted to the relevant structures so that they can be processed in line with the ANC’s procedures. Unfortunately, I can’t say anything more,” the report quoted Ntshavenias saying.

“The ANC has processes that are tight enough to safeguard its own processes, and the ANC is an organisation that continually builds on any weaknesses that may arise and we have remedies for any weaknesses that may arise. There is recourse. The ANC will have to process and discuss the way forward.”
