Severe thunderstorms are affecting parts of northern and central South Africa, with localised damage expected to infrastructure, informal settlements, property, vehicles, and livelihoods.
Floods have been rife for the past few weeks, particularly in the Mpumalanga, Limpopo and KZN provinces. Flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, falling trees and minor road closures can still be expected.
Localised service disruption can also be expected due to power surges/disruptions. The South African Weather Service has issued a weather alert for the affected provinces.
Furthermore, a warning has been issued for very hot to extreme uncomfortable weather in the Western and Northern Cape provinces, with very hot conditions around the Kamiesberg municipalities. Daytime temperatures are expected to be well above the 30s. This kind of hot weather can impact health, and it is essential to take necessary precautions.
