A man from Gqeberha, Zolani Zondani, shocked and inspired many when he embarked on a walk from Gqeberha to Cape Town to raise awareness on a campaign which focuses on mental issues affecting men.
The 30-year-old began his walk last week Monday from his hometown, Soweto on Sea. What prompted the walk is his eagerness to raise funds to register his NPO named Broski, a platform where men can be free to share their feelings.
Currently, he is a few kilometres away from Riviersonderend, and has shared that he will rest in Caledon because the sun is too hot. He also shared that he accepted a lift to cover 20km because he has to be in Cape Town tomorrow. Zolani raised various concerns that led him to accept lifts, one of them is crime in certain areas. He does not have an escort, which makes him prone to crime.
Another reason he cited is the sun. He shared that there are no shaded areas on the side of the road, so it makes his walk difficult.
From the first day of his journey, he has met different people from all walks of life. His walk of bravery has led many to offer a helping hand by offering him prayers, words of wisdom, refreshments and snacks for the road.

On his way, he also met a group of children in Riversdale who offered to walk with him to Swellendam. He called them ‘Team No Rest’, because of their enthusiasm, and how fast they walked on the road. Zolani shared that this made him emotional because he did not think that his journey would have an impact on others.
