Mum Serves Dinner on Cabbage Leaves After Kids Refuse Dish Duty

When your kids skip washing up, what do you do? One South African mum turned to cabbage leaves. It sounds quirky, but the video she posted has trended fast, and people are talking.

What happened

On 10 September 2025, a TikTok creator by the name of @buhlezikhali443 posted a clip showing her serving meals on cabbage leaves instead of regular plates. The reason was simple: her kids had refused to wash the dishes. Within 24 hours the video got more than 10 000 likes and over 1 000 comments. It sparked reactions for its humour but also its cleverness.

Social media laughs and opinions

Viewers found the mum’s move funny and inventive. Many appreciated how she turned a chore issue into a lesson in responsibility. Some said the method was “eco-friendly” since cabbage leaves are biodegradable. Others questioned whether using leaves is a fair consequence or just a bit extreme. Threads formed where people shared childhood memories of chores and what they think works in teaching responsibility.

Why this struck a chord

In many South African homes chores are part of growing up, but they often become a sore spot. Washing dishes is a classic example. The video caught people because it’s both funny and familiar. It’s also a reflection of how small creative solutions can highlight larger issues of accountability in families.

Lessons beyond the leaves

This isn’t just about cabbage leaves or dishes. It’s about boundaries and consequences. The mum’s tactic shows that sometimes a household rule doesn’t need punishment but needs consistent consequences, you can see. Using something cheeky yet harmless got a point across. And it reminds parents that discipline doesn’t always have to feel like a lecture; it can be creative.
