Actress Pamela Nomvete recently shared her frustrations over her on-going passport woes despite having dual citizenship.
The former Generations actress, who is now based in United Kingdom, recently took to her Instagram page to share that she cannot travel to her ancestral land, South Africa because her passport has expired, and she is battling to renew it.
Pamela shared that she was born in exile and obtained her South African citizenship so she could vote for a black majority government. However, her passport expired and she has been trying to renew it. Her attempts are failing because she has to prove her South African citizenship by producing her late parents‘ documents.
“This year my South African passport expired and now I am trying to renew it. I am literally being told all over again to prove my South African citizenship and produce my late parents’ documents namely- their birth certificates and ID documents.
“My parents are now on the ancestral plain so I am not able to get these papers from them. As a result I cannot travel to my ancestral home because I am unable to produce evidence that, surely from 1994, the home office should have on record! I went through hell and high water to produce this very evidence back then! I can’t even travel on just my British passport because I have dual citizenship and therefore have to have both passports valid in order to travel,” she penned.
The former Lockdown actress vowed to fight for her South African citizenship.
“I am heart broken but shall still fight to get my passport and be recognised as a dual citizen- South African Brit born in Ethiopia. Surely the world should be our playground.
Once an exile always an exile,” she wrote.
