Drivers warned – Ford, Nissan, Citroen recall cars over life-threatening defects

Ford, Nissan, and Citroen are issuing recalls on multiple vehicle models after several defects were identified, prompting the National Consumer Commission (NCC) to issue an advisory notice of voluntary product recalls.

Owners of affected vehicles are urged to take them to the nearest authorised dealership.

Citroen C4, DS4, and DS5
Stellantis South Africa is recalling Citroen C4, DS4, and DS5 models sold between 2009 and 2016 due to potential airbag inflator ruptures. The defect could release metal fragments into the cabin during deployment, posing a serious risk of injury or death to drivers and passengers.

Nissan Qashqai
Nissan is recalling Qashqai models sold from September 2021 to April 2024 because of a possible assembly fault in the HR13 Non-Alis EGI harness battery connection. A loose harness retaining nut could cause increased resistance under specific driving conditions, leading to excessive heat build-up.

Ford Vehicles
Ford Southern Africa is recalling multiple models over various issues:

  • Mustang, Everest, Ranger, and Transit Custom (2021–2025): Infotainment systems may freeze, causing black screens and delayed or missing rear-view camera images.

  • Mustang, Everest, Ranger, and Ecosport (2019–2023): Short ignition cycles may cause SYNC system errors, resulting in intermittent blank images or rear-view display issues.

  • Ranger Wildtrak (2025): Transmission main valve body defects could prevent reverse motion or cause unexpected forward movement when in reverse or neutral, with corresponding dashboard warning lights.

The NCC, represented by Prudence Moilwa, head of complaints and investigations, emphasised the seriousness of the defects and encouraged affected vehicle owners to promptly visit authorised dealerships.
