The wait for matric results can feel like an emotional rollercoaster—not just for students but for parents too. As a parent, you might find yourself juggling your child’s excitement, nervousness, and even moments of self-doubt.

It’s a delicate time, and your support can make a world of difference. There are simple ways to ease the tension and keep spirits high during this waiting period. After all, it’s not just about the results—it’s about showing your child they’re never alone on this journey.

According to the Trinity House publication, during these periods of anxiety, it is crucial to treat your child with empathy and care, ensuring they are physically, mentally, and emotionally well-rested. It is stated that you focus on the present moment and avoid being critical of the outcome.

The above source further encourages you to create a fun time for them by engaging them in their favourite hobbies, physical activity, and social life. Encourage them to consider volunteering or part-time jobs to help them cope with stress, the mentioned source adds.

If results are not what your child desires, Mancosa encourages you to remind them that success appears differently for everyone and is not defined by all “A’s,” instead they must focus on their goals and future achievements and maintain a positive mindset.

It is also mentioned that parents should validate the importance of trying again and working together to set goals and track future progress.

Remember that success is not always about achieving the best, but about accepting challenges, solving problems, and continuing with determination.
