If you are an art lover, here’s a look at a few artsy destinations to visit this January.

Riebeek-Kasteel

The charming and quaint town of Riebeek-Kasteel boasts an artsy edge. Situated one hour north of the Mother City, it is truly a gem with a unique architectural and artistic scene.

Victorian and Cape Dutch houses dominate the town, with a number of art galleries and studios beckoning the heart of every art lover. Indeed, a visit to the town is incomplete without fully immersing yourself in its artsy side and discovering all it has to offer.

The iconic and colourful neighbourhood of Bo-Kaap is rich in history, culture and art. The brightly painted houses will not fail to grab your attention. They are picture-perfect and carry a powerful Cape Malay influence from centuries ago. Moreover, the area is home to several galleries, museums and some street artists that make it an absolute must-visit

Durban Art Gallery

If you are in the KwaZulu-Natal province, the Durban Art Gallery is worth visiting.

Founded in 1892, it hosts a collection of diverse artwork which dates back as far as the 15th century until the present. The gallery’s diversity serves as an accurate representation of the historical and cultural diversity of eThekwini and South Africa.

Expect interesting carvings, beadwork, clay pots, as well as other works by several talented and reputable artists.

Everard Read Gallery

Located in the City of Gold, the Everard Read Gallery stands as a prestigious emblem of Southern African artistry. Undoubtedly, it is one of the country’s oldest and most popular galleries.

It displays dynamic South African art, as well as some sourced works from international artists. When exploring vibrant Johannesburg, a stop at this art haven is recommended.
