Matome Robert Mahlatse Thoka known as Limpompo Boy has found himself in the spotlight, teaching South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, Gayton McKenzie how to dance.
Limpopo Boy has built an impressive reputation as a talented dancer who has travelled worldwide teaching people his moves. His journey has taken him from the streets of Limpopo to international stages, where he has shared his passion for dance.
According to Timeslive, Minister Gayton McKenzie invited Limpopo Boy to lunch and requested a dance lesson at the Cultural and Creative Industries Sector Bosberaad.
Limpopo Boy expressed his surprise and excitement, sharing with TshisaLIVE, “I was surprised and excited. It’s not every day you get to teach a high-profile figure like a minister. I felt a mix of nervousness and pride because it was a big deal, but I was also confident in my ability to teach him and make it a fun experience.”
In addition to teaching the minister how to dance, Limpopo Boy had a memorable conversation with him about the role of dance and the arts in preserving culture and engaging with youth.
Limpopo Boy further told the publication that he appreciated the Minister’s vision for supporting local talent and his efforts to enhance visibility for the creative industries.
