Becoming a published author is a dream for many who enjoy expressing themselves through ink. It usually takes a while for a writer to reach the point where they decide to release their work to the world as a published book.

However, this cute little second grader from Makhanda, Eastern Cape saw no need for him to wait until he was older to share his writing skills.

The Good Things Guy publication states that Ezekiel published his very first book titled “A Collection of Short Stories,” at only eight years old. The publication claimed that this young boy’s book “naturally blew literature lovers away at festivals like the National Arts Festival in Makhanda and the Joy of Books Festival in East London, both for the strikingly young age of its author and for the kind of creativity inherent to childlike curiosity it channels.”

According to the mentioned publication, Ezekiels’ school, Kingswood College, states that he wrote the novel at the age of five.

The Good Things Guy further mentions that Ezekiel’s parents never expected to have an eight-year-old published author and that they are amazed. The parents also mentioned that their son’s book was originally meant to be kept and shared with the Grocott’s Mail news publication and not be sold.

The young author’s parents, along with the community of Makhanda, couldn’t be more proud of their kid.

“Ezekiel’s story speaks to the beauty of uniqueness, finding one’s confidence and accepting who you are—something many adults still grapple with,” concludes the publication.

The Grocott’s Mail publication mentioned that the second grader took part in this year’s 50th National Arts Festival, an annual event held in Makhanda, that features experienced performers, up-and-coming artists, and a network of producers, authors, and creators who develop and present works on South African stages.
