Rapper L-Tido’s recent podcast episode with DJ Prince Kaybee received a mixed reaction online, as users found it hard to believe the DJ’s rags-to-riches story.

The renowned DJ appeared on L-Tido’s podcast on YouTube, where he spoke about being homeless and dropping out of school in Grade 11, as well as the celebrity beefs he has with various musicians in the industry. Although Prince Kaybee was candid about his struggles before making it in the industry, users felt that his story did not add up, with some users even alluding that he was spreading a false narrative about his upbringing.

During the interview on the podcast, Prince Kaybee said, “Before I got into fame, I was very selfless. I used to do things that were very disgusting in a way because I come from the streets.” He added, “I left home after dropping out of Grade 11. I went to Bloemfontein and started hustling, I never told my mom where I was going. I was gone for a good three or four years; I never saw my mother. So I was on the streets.”

He further explained that he started DJing when he met a club owner and became a resident DJ for that club and because of his homelessness, the owner offered him a place to sleep.

Online publication MDN News shared a snippet of the interview on X (formerly known as Twitter), causing users to share their opinions on the statement he made.

One user said that celebrities always have the same rags-to-riches story.

Another user commented:

How was he homeless for 4 years, like the home he grew up at had disappeared or something, what had happened to his home, his mama’s home or something. This throwing around of the word homeless must stop man

Another user said:

But do we count that as homeless? He left his home in Botshabelo to Bloem to go hustle and there are people that travel between the two every day for the same reason. Back then hikes where R10 between the two, he either made up this story or he just liked being away from home
