The actor, dancer, performer, and now director will be taking on a behind-the-scenes role in the South African production. True to his multi-disciplinary nature, the director role will not be the only role he plays in the production: he will be an executive producer and appear onstage.

More about Musical Chairs

The two-time Naledi Award-nominated production, presented by the Locksmiths Collective and Rush Productions, will be showing at the Magnet Theatre in Cape Town, following its Johannesburg run.

Musical Chairs is a dance-theatre production that explores the complex issues that arise with living in an increasingly digital world. The production touches on the desire to be seen and accepted within the social media matrix.

By using the childhood game of musical chairs as a metaphor, the production then exposes how online relationships can affect one’s identity and sense of belonging.

The dance-theatre production blends South African dance styles like iPanstula and global dance styles such as hip hop. These dance styles are then combined with contemporary theatre to create a performance that utilises movement to tell a story.

Only going up for Hungani Ndlovu

For Hungani, this project is a mark for career expansion; his executive and directorial role in the production, alongside the role he has on the stage, are sure to open up more doors for the actor in the future.

With his experience in television, film and performance, this project, putting him both in the background and on the stage, not only adds to his artistic profile but expands his career possibilities.
