The news that Nigeria had approved the death penalty for drug offenders reached the internet leaving many with so much to say.

The constitution amendment report of the National Drug Law Enforcement Act was handed over to the Nigeria’s National Assembly by the chairman of the joint committee Tahir Monguno, in order to strengthen the operation of the agency, review penalty provisions and give power to the agency in order to prosecute drug related offences, said TVC news.

Speaking at the National Assembly in Abuja, the chairman shared:

“In most cases, because of enforcing the law or making an arrest in drug related cases is normally a category zero, they organises themselves and distract the officers from committing their legal mandate. So, the is therefore a need to impose a very strict penalty to jitter them from acts of exercising legal powers.”

Another member of the Assembly firmly said:

“It’s time to call a spade, a spade and if we want to eradicate drug trafficking in Nigeria, the only way we can do that is to nip it in the bud and to make it a fatal offence.”
