A new season of the reality show Mnakwethu aired recently, leaving many internet users debating on whether there is a need for the show with some shocked at how straight-forward Zulu women can be.

The reality show hosted by polygamist and father of 10 Musa Mseleku, sees men who have are interested in the polygamous practice requesting the presenter to accompany them to their spouses in order to ask for their approval to have a second wife.

Polygamy is not a foreign concept in most African cultures. The Zulus have kept it going strong, especially in the rural parts. The younger generation has also joined what was in the past associated with older people who wanted to expand their families.

As a norm, the first episode saw a man approach Musa requesting his help as he wanted to introduce to his wife to a lady he has been cheating with for two years as his potential second wife.

His main reason for requesting a second wife is that his wife does not have time for him, as she is constantly at work, fending for their family.

Upon seeing the first episode, the internet were angered by the man’s reason for wanting to bring someone else to his union, especially considering that he met his wife in the place of employment they both worked for.

They commented:

#Mnakwethu This lady right here is my Hero ??? Yes woman , so glad she wasn’t shaken by Mseleku and his camera’s. The way she buried the husband’s reason for wanting a second wife . How can you meet me at work then 16 years later you want me to quite ! #Mnakwethu pic.twitter.com/iNZ0jUd7Lx

He wants another wife who can travel to weddings with him..

Does this man make enough to support his wife so that she doesn’t have to work so much?

It didn’t sound like she likes not spending time with her family either…

Is there a plan? Utheni Lobaba?#Mnakwethu pic.twitter.com/BkFJ9lZKBA

So this man wants another wife because his wife has a job and doesn’t focus on him and the kids. Like really?!?! #mnakwethu pic.twitter.com/E0Z2jD6Xz1

Did the sidechick just tell the wife that the reason why her man went out looking for another woman is because something is lacking in their marriage?! #Mnakwethu pic.twitter.com/NIZpkspzPY
