Thinking of getting a furry pet? Here is a list of family-friendly dog breeds

The idea of welcoming a furry pet into your home is often an exciting one.

Not only do dogs provide families with joy and emotional support, but they also cater to one’s physical well-being. This is because they encourage owners to run after them during moments of playtime or the average daily walk regime.

As fun and exciting as this may be, the tough part usually comes when we have to decide on which dog breed we would want to welcome into our space.

This is because not all dogs are the same. Dogs like Rottweilers, Boerboels, and German Shepherds are instinctively guard dogs by nature, which can be a bit tricky when hosting friends and family at your place.

According to Sophie’s Circle – a dog rescue and adoption company – most families usually look for dogs who are child-friendly, affectionate, loveable, energetic and easy to groom.

If this is something that appeals to you as well, we have made things slightly easier by providing you with a list of dog breeds perfect for your family.

Labrador retriever

Originally from Canada, this is often referred to as a companion dog. Lifestyle hub Show Me describes this breed as being a sweet, nurtured breed that is friendly with both people as well as other animals. Due to their friendly nature, they are seen as terrible guard dogs but make excellent companions.

“Labs love children and will be happy to join in whatever adventures the kids are up to,” explains the above-mentioned source.

Similar to their above-mentioned cousins, these Scottish-originating dogs thrive on outdoor fun. They enjoy nature and have a deep love for being in the water. The dog is ideal for families who are constantly out in nature or going out for regular jogging exercises.

Beagle

Beagles are known to be extremely sociable breeds. “Known for their happy-go-lucky nature, these sociable dogs thrive on human interaction and are great with children,” explains lifestyle publication Medium.

Collies

Originally bred to be herding dogs, Collies possess a high level of intelligence, protective instincts and an attentive disposition.

“Collies are a loving and devoted breed that bonds well with humans, especially children and other animals. They have an energetic personality and require regular exercise of at least an hour daily to keep them mentally and physically healthy,” explains Medium.
