Veteran gospel singer Solly Moholo has his sights firmly set on venturing into one of South Africa’s most popular young genres Amapiano.
Amapiano, a Nguni word which means “the pianos” is a subgenre of house music and has become one of South Africa’s most prized exports, becoming a popular favourite both locally as well as in American and European countries.
Despite it being popular among young people, Solly is eager to tap into the genre, revealing that he currently has a song that is due to be released in the near future.
In an interview on The Venting Podcast, he said that the main objective is to reach out to young people who find themselves in some of the darkest places.
“Ama 2000 controls the world. They have run to the taverns. That is why I am bringing this vibe so that it can outreach wherever they are.
“There are drugs everywhere. That’s why I say [in his new song], stop drugs, stop crime, child trafficking, and violence,” he said.
He later reflected on his own trials throughout the years adding that there were several moments where he considered taking his life.
The key to overcoming these challenges was prayer. Solly explains that as soon as he discovered the power of prayer, his whole life changed.
“I had a lot of problems, and I was stressed… Don’t give up. I want people to pray and pray for the world, our government, and for no spilling of blood.”
