THREE ACCUSED APPEARED IN COURT IN CONNECTION WITH DECEASED WOMAN’S SMARTWATCH
@NPA_Prosecutes statement:
Three accused appeared before the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court in connection with the alleged theft, possession and disposal of a smartwatch belonging to the late Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, whose body was discovered in Rhodesfield on 12 September 2026.
The deceased was last seen alive on 09 September 2026 after leaving her home for a run. It is alleged that her smartwatch was acquired less than 24 hours after she was last seen and was subsequently sold and resold by the accused.
The accused are Kenneth Chibuzor, Stephen Mahlakwane Sekhukhune and Danial Anthony Moat.
Chibuzor faces charges relating to contraventions of the Second-Hand Goods Act 6 of 2009, money laundering, theft, alternatively possession of goods reasonably suspected to have been stolen, or receiving stolen property without reasonable cause to believe that the transferor was entitled to dispose of it.
Sekhukhune and Moat face charges of money laundering and theft, alternatively possession of or receiving stolen property.
The State alleges that Chibuzor, who operated a second-hand goods shop in Kempton Park, acquired the smartwatch for R900 from an unidentified individual without obtaining and recording the required identification details and transaction particulars as prescribed by law.
It is further alleged that he sold the smartwatch to Sekhukhune on 10 September 2026.
On the same day, Sekhukhune allegedly registered the smartwatch to his Gmail account after the deceased’s profile information and settings had been erased. He subsequently sold the device to Moat for R4 000.
According to the State, Moat later advertised the smartwatch on social media and sold it for R4 000 to a fourth individual.
The fourth individual has not been enrolled as an accused due to insufficient evidence linking them to the alleged offences.
The matter was postponed to 19 October 2026 for the bail application of Chibuzor.
The court also ordered that his immigration status be verified, as he is a Nigerian citizen.
The National Prosecuting Authority remains committed to ensuring that individuals who allegedly benefit from criminal activities are held accountable and that justice is served for victims and their families.

How the smartwatch allegedly changed hands
The NPA alleges that Kenneth, who operated a second-hand goods shop in Kempton Park, bought the smartwatch for R900 from an unidentified individual.
According to the State, Kenneth failed to obtain and record the identification details and transaction particulars required under the Second-Hand Goods Act 6 of 2009.
It is further alleged that Kenneth sold the smartwatch to Stephen on 10 September 2026.
On the same day, Stephen allegedly registered the device to his Gmail account after Tsontso’s profile information and settings had been erased.
Stephen subsequently sold the smartwatch to Danial for R4 000, the NPA said.
The State further alleges that Danial advertised the device on social media before selling it for R4 000 to a fourth individual.
The fourth individual has not been charged, as the NPA says there is insufficient evidence linking them to the alleged offences.
Charges against the accused
Kenneth faces charges relating to alleged contraventions of the Second-Hand Goods Act, money laundering and theft.
