DIY tricks for dyeing your clothes at home

Dyeing clothes at home can be a fun and easy way to transform your wardrobe into what you would like it to be.

You can also take this as time to unwind and spend time with yourself whilst trying to change your wardrobe.

However, when you are doing this you need to make sure that you the correct techniques to do it so that you get the results you are looking for.

Here are some tricks for dyeing clothes at home suggested by Rit Dye– website that offers advice about fabric dyes with detailed instruction for using a product and the different dyes for all ranges of fabric including cotton, wool and silk:

1. Make use of Rit dye for cotton, linen, and silk fabrics.
2. Use Dylon dye for wool, silk, and other protein-based fabrics.
3. You can use Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit for tie-dyeing t-shirts and other cotton fabrics.
4. Use fabric paint for adding designs and patterns to your clothes.
5. Make use of Sharpie markers for simple designs or for coloring in existing patterns.
6. Be sure to test your dye or paint on a small, inconspicuous area of the fabric before dye

Before dyeing, it is also important that you prepare the fabric to avoid making common mistakes such as:

  • Not following the instructions on the dye packet.
  • Using too much or too little dye.
  •  Using the wrong type of dye for the fabric.
  • Not pre-washing the fabric before dyeing it.
  • Not rinsing the fabric thoroughly after dyeing.
