Understanding the concept of gentle parenting

by Ncumisa Lerato Kunana

The concept of gentle parenting has been making its rounds especially on social media as many are only becoming aware of the concept now .

According to verywell famil, research based gentle parenting practices help to raise children who are confident and happy. This parenting approach, which focuses on nurturing the qualities you desire in your child by being kind and setting consistent boundaries, is made up of four basic components: empathy, respect, understanding, and boundaries. In contrast to other less strict parenting strategies, gentle parenting promotes age-appropriate punishment that imparts important life skills.

In order to establish rules and boundaries that are appropriate for their age and advantageous to their development, gentle parenting focuses on the child’s cognitive state. Gentle parents act around their children in a way that reflects what they want to see from them since this method of parenting aims to develop positive attributes in kids.

According to research, encouraging someone gently may also lower their risk for anxiety. A research even concluded that gentle parenting “may produce regulated reactions in social circumstances in timid toddlers.

While being gentle with their children, parents discipline them with the intention of teaching rather than punishing the offender. By avoiding exposing them to unfavorable speech and behavior, these activities help kids understand how they should behave.

Children will eventually act in an appropriate manner for their age. When your children use the virtues you’ve modeled for them throughout their upbringing on their own as they get older, that is the prize of gentle parenting.
