South Africans are beaming with pride as Thuso Mbedu graced the stage as a guest on the Daily Show with Trevor Noah.

This interview was a big deal to South Africans as both Thuso and Trevor are South Africans and absolutely killing it in Hollywood.

In the interview, Thuso opens up about what it was like to work with Viola Davis in “The Woman King.” She also opens up about how she has been actively resisting roles that will require her to cry.

“It’s funny cause back home in South Africa that’s what I was known for, I am actively resisting roles that I as a character will have to cry. In this one I loved that Voila’s character tells my character that ‘you do not cry in this space’ I absolutely loved it because then it means I don’t have to cry. But the movie tells us that what Viola was telling my character was not necessarily true, because taking away her tears means stripping her away of her humanity, ultimately.” Thuso said.

The international superstar also opens up about why she decided to pursue acting from a social impact standpoint. “I choose projects that I feel will have some sort of impact. We’re not following money but purpose. We’re following changing people’s lives.” she added.

With her deal with Paramount Plus, Thuso plans on telling stories that are going to change people’s lives and transform people’s thinking. Thesed stories will place a focus on health, climate and equity. She plans on taking these stories to South Africa and Africa.

Taking to her Instagram, she thanked her team for the work they have put in making this interview come to fruition.
