There is sometimes an art behind making your resume presentable and easy to look at by employers. Just putting your qualifications and experiences on paper is somehow not cutting it anymore.

Business News daily advises on how to better create your resume for it to represent the person that you are and the skills that you have to offer. Employers receive thousands of resumes for each vacancy advertised.

Business News reports that,

  • Employers have an average of 6 to 7 minutes to look at a resume
  • For better chances of employers looking at your resume is to send it from 6am to 10am on the first four days the job has been advertised.
  • Every time you apply for a new job, make sure you adjust your resume accordingly.
  • Always ask for a second opinion from a qualified human resources administrator.

A popular job site in South Africa Indeed articulates a few points for you to make you resume appealing to employers.

  1. Font style that are professional to use are Times New Roman, Calibri or Helvetica.
  2. An appropriate font size for an employer to read your resume is size 12.
  3. Choosing a template is important because if you’re using a much fancier template it can distract from the content.
  4. Use the standard colours such as black and white and you can maybe choose a third colour for example, blue or green.
  5. Something that would make you stand out the most is a perfectly curated cover letter that speaks about who you are as an individual.

When making your resume, make sure the information you put in is accurate and your references can attest to your work experience.
