Congratulations! You have received your degree from your tertiary institution and are ready to take on the world, but what exactly do you plan on doing next?

The above may be a question that has crossed many graduates’ minds. However, fear not, as there are many forms of opportunities waiting for you in the wings.

Below are five such opportunities you can consider grasping after your studies.

1. Become a freelancer

CareerAddict, a leading online career resource, explains that before taking on this career path, it is best to first identify your marketable skills and niche. “Sign up on freelancing platforms like Fiverr and Upwork, and start with smaller, manageable projects to build your portfolio,” says the above-mentioned publication.

You can use this time to gain valuable skills that will help you in future employment opportunities. Daddy’s Deals offers an opportunity to master Microsoft Excel with an online training course. For more information on this deal, click here.

2. Spend some time back at home

“Returning home after university is a great way to compose your thoughts, look for jobs and consider your options while in a comfortable, cost-effective setting,” says the job-finding portal Indeed. “Use the time at home to network with local businesses in your field, connect with other graduates and update your CV. You may also use some time to rest and rejuvenate.”

3. Study further and become a postgraduate

Who says you can’t stop studying after obtaining your first degree? By completing a relevant postgraduate course, you have the opportunity to further develop your level of specialist knowledge, explains Indeed. These studies may also improve your employability and increase your earning potential.

Looking to teach English online? You can qualify to teach English online with a 140-hour TEFL/TESOL Certificate and job placement from Daddy’s Deals. For more information, click here.

4. Take a gap year

Although some may see a gap year as a negative, it can bring about positives. CareerAddict notes that this is a time to invest in yourself, whether it be through travelling, volunteering or diving into personal projects you have been postponing.

5. Start your own business

Indeed shares that all you need are two things to get this ball rolling: a passion and a business idea. “Although it won’t be easy, a detailed plan, a well-built website and an excellent work ethic could set you on the path to entrepreneurship,” says the career-based portal.
