1. Typos and grammatical errors
In order for anyone to take you seriously, you need to ensure you spell check your cv before you submit it to your potential employer. And while we have spell check on at the press of a button, it’s a good idea to have someone you trust, such as a friend, a relative, or a mentor, to go through your CV to check for errors which you may have overlooked.
2. TMI!!! (Too much information)
Always remember to keep your CV short, sweet and straight to the point. That means keeping it to one page and removing all the info your Life Orientation teacher told you to add to your CV. Use short paragraphs and bullet points to make it easier to go through your CV. You don’t need to add everything you’ve ever done, just the experience that relates to the position you are applying for.
3. Incorrect or missing contact information
You may think that this is a no brainer, but it isn’t. There are candidates who have rock solid resumes and yet they are unable to get interviews. One of the things which attribute to this is simply adding incorrect or missing contact information. Whether it be an email addy or a mobile number triple check that you have written the correct info sis!

4. Using an unprofessional email address
We know, we know, hotbabe101@gmail.com was a really dope email addy back when we had Mxit and, Migg33 and MySpace, yes I went there! Like all things, all good things come to an end so please sis, get a professional email addy with your full name and surname which you will use for professional use. You can keep the other one for your socials, I mean it’s a classic right?
5. Leaving out social media links
You knew I was going to talk about your socials, so grab a chair cause you might fall over after this. Look, I get it, you want to be an influencer or a brand ambassador for your fave alcohol brand but sis… Really? Look, you can have a social and professional life, but make sure you separate them. Don’t post anything which may be seen to b distasteful in any way, shape or form. That means your social media handle needs to be your name and surname. Look at it this way, as opposed to adding your physical addy to your CV you can simply pop your professional socials such as your LinkedIn profile.
