5 Ways to find your next job

For many people, the beginning of a new year is a time to set out goals to be achieved throughout the year. This is also a good time for those looking for employment to search for their dream jobs, as many companies tend to seek employees around this time of the year.

Often, we come across people who are only familiar with one way of looking for a job, limiting their employable chances. We have compiled five ways to help those searching for jobs expand their chances of finding employment.

  • Use job search platforms – there are many search platforms available for people to use when looking for a job, some are industry specific while others cater for all kinds of jobs. Employment search platform Indeed shares that job search platforms allow you access to large number of jobs quicker and efficiently. Examples of search engines includes but not limited to, LinkedIn, Indeed, Career24, Pnet, Bizcommunity and many more.
  • Contact the company directly – you may contact the company directly either telephonically or through the email if interested in joining them. If at the time of contact the company does not have any vacancies that fit your skill and experience, they may keep your details and contact you when vacancies open, shares the above-mentioned job search engine.
  • Online searches – do check your desired company’s website under their career segment as they may advertise more on it than on search platforms. Online learning platform Coursera advises to also try social media platforms such as X formerly known as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and others, as some companies also advertise through them.
  • Take smart chances – even when a job post says five years’ experience and you only have three, go ahead and apply for it, shares global media branding and technology search engine Forbes. “Submit your application for a role, even if it’s not exactly what you’ve done before,” adds the hub.
  • Through networking – networking is another good way of finding employment, shares Coursera. The online learning platform notes that one has to be proactive and connect with industry players and employees to create a strong network in advance, preparing for the time of need. By doing so, your network connection may notify you of openings, or refer you directly to the hiring department adds the learning platform.
