Nasreddine Nabi Calls For Calm After Kaizer Chiefs Stumble Against Sekhukhune United

by nikita.m

Kaizer Chiefs’ unbeaten start to the new PSL season came crashing down on Tuesday night as Sekhukhune United delivered a 3-1 reality check at the FNB Stadium.

Babina Noko Too Strong

Veteran striker Bradley Grobler rolled back the years with a brace before Thabang Monare added a third to seal a statement win for Sekhukhune. For Chiefs, it was the first time they conceded this season after six games of defensive solidity, leaving fans stunned and disappointed.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi admitted his side were second best. “We made too many mistakes at the back, and Sekhukhune punished us with their direct play. Offensively, we also lacked sharpness. It simply wasn’t good enough,” he said after the game.

Fans React To The Setback

On social media, Amakhosi supporters were quick to vent their frustration. Some praised Sekhukhune’s organisation and fighting spirit, while others worried that old habits of inconsistency were resurfacing. Memes about Grobler’s ageless scoring touch trended, while many called for patience, reminding fellow fans that it’s still early in the season.

Nabi Preaches Patience

Despite the disappointment, Nabi was calm in his assessment. He urged the fanbase and his players not to panic. “This is still the beginning of the season. We need to learn from today, keep our heads up and show a reaction,” he said.

He also acknowledged Sekhukhune’s performance: “They deserved the three points. Sometimes in football you need to accept the opponent was better.”

Eyes On Angola

Chiefs now face a quick turnaround with a CAF Confederation Cup preliminary clash against Kabuscorp in Luanda on Saturday. Nabi stressed the importance of shifting focus. “It’s a knockout game and requires a different mindset. We must correct our mistakes and prepare with more concentration.”

A Lesson In Perspective

While the defeat stings, the season is still young. For Chiefs fans, this result serves as a reminder that Nabi’s rebuild is a process, not an overnight fix. The upcoming continental test in Angola could offer the perfect platform to bounce back and restore confidence.
