Well wishes continue to pour in after tragedy struck for the Orlando Pirates team and community, as coach Abdeslam and some staff members recover in hospital following a terrible road accident.
Orlando Pirates fans and South Africa’s football community at large have been left reeling after news of coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, as well as five members of the club’s technical team’s involvement in a tragic road accident made its way to the public. The accident took place shortly after the Buccaneers secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Chippa United.
According to the team’s official reports, coach Abdeslam and his staff encountered a collision that had taken place between two other vehicles, and disembarked to assist with the matter. Unfortunately, a Nissan NP200 then crashed in to the group, causing some injuries.
“Coach Ouaddou, along with the five affected staff members, were immediately transported to hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care,” the team revealed in a statement.
This accident comes at a crucial time for the team, as they are starting to successfully put their pieces together after a rocky start to the season. After facing some criticism following a rocky 0-2 start to the season, the Moroccan coach had started gaining the fans’ trust back, as he and the team managed to secure three wins in a row since then. This has forced fans to humble themselves in front of Abdeslam, and admit that they judged him prematurely in the beginning of the season.
These fans have continued to encourage their head coach and technical staff to recover speedily, in order to get back to business, and pick up where they left off.
