Chelsea’s hopes of reaching the quarterfinals suffered a major blow in Paris after PSG claimed a convincing 5-2 victory at the Parc des Princes.
The French champions struck early when Bradley Barcola opened the scoring just ten minutes into the match. Chelsea responded well and found an equaliser before halftime when Malo Gusto got the Blues back on level terms.
However, PSG restored their advantage before the break as Ousmane Dembele finished off a swift attacking move to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
Chelsea again showed resilience early in the second half. Enzo Fernandez found the net in the 57th minute to make it 2-2 and briefly shift the momentum back toward the visitors.
But the game turned decisively in the final stages. Vitinha struck in the 74th minute to push PSG ahead once more, before substitute Khvicha Kvaratskhelia delivered the decisive blow with two late goals that sealed an emphatic result.
PSG coach Luis Enrique praised his team’s performance but insisted the job is not yet complete.
“The result is very good, but there is still another match,” he said after the final whistle.
Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior admitted the late collapse had left his side facing a difficult task in the return leg.
“It’s a painful one because for 75 minutes we were in the tie,” he said. “The last fifteen minutes were crazy and we have made the challenge much harder for ourselves.”
The second leg now awaits in London, where Chelsea must produce something special to overturn the deficit.

In Spain, Real Madrid delivered a commanding performance to defeat Manchester City 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Midfielder Federico Valverde stole the spotlight with a stunning first-half hat trick that left City chasing the game early.
His goals gave Madrid firm control of the tie despite the absence of injured star Kylian Mbappe.
The Spanish giants could have extended their lead further after the break, but City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma saved a penalty from Vinicius Junior to prevent further damage.
The result hands Madrid a major advantage heading into the second leg.

Arsenal avoided defeat thanks to a dramatic late moment against Bayer Leverkusen.
After a goalless first half, Leverkusen broke the deadlock early in the second period when Robert Andrich headed home from a corner.
The German side looked set to claim victory until substitute Kai Havertz stepped up in the closing minutes.
The former Leverkusen player calmly converted an 89th-minute penalty after Noni Madueke was fouled inside the box, securing a 1-1 draw for the Gunners and keeping their unbeaten European run alive.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta acknowledged his side will need to improve in the second leg.
“The level of execution has to be better,” he said. “We will adapt and be stronger next week.”
