A Family Legacy Continues At Naturena
The McCarthy name is once again echoing through the halls of Naturena, this time through 21-year-old Aden McCarthy, whose steady progress at Kaizer Chiefs has earned the admiration of fans—and his father.
Former Amakhosi and Bafana Bafana defender Fabian McCarthy has spoken openly about the pride he feels watching his son seize his opportunity in the first team. Aden, who has made six appearances in all competitions this season, has impressed with his composure and tactical discipline, even as he adjusts to the intensity of top-flight football.
“He’s been training with the senior team for the past three seasons and has held his ground,” said Fabian. “He’s doing really well, but now it’s about consistency and working hard every day.”
From Father To Son: Lessons In Discipline
Fabian, who was known for his strong defensive presence during his own playing days, believes Aden’s professionalism and humility make him a standout example for other young players rising through the Chiefs academy.
He’s quick to remind his son, however, that early success is just the beginning. “I told him that maintaining consistency and discipline is what separates a good player from a great one,” he said.
In a heartfelt admission, Fabian even noted that Aden has already surpassed him in some aspects of the game. “I told coach Ernst Middendorp three years ago that I believe he’s better than I was. He grew up in a structured environment, and now it’s up to him to keep proving himself.”
Writing His Own Story
Despite the guidance of a footballing father, Aden’s journey has been entirely his own. Fabian insists that he never pushed his son into football—Aden chose it for himself.
“I never forced anything on him. From the beginning, this has been his choice and his career,” he said.
As Kaizer Chiefs look to rebuild and nurture their next generation of stars, Aden’s quiet determination and steady rise are signs of a bright future—one shaped by hard work, family values, and a deep love for the game that runs in his blood.
