Multi-award winning singer Ntando’s continues to shine with a SAMA nomination in the bag and a newly released album.

Choosing music as a career path was an easy option for me. From a very young age, I knew that I wanted to be a musician because singing came naturally to me and I enjoyed it very much. It doesn’t feel like a job because it’s a lot of fun and I can’t imagine myself doing anything else.

Breaking into the music industry in 2003, changed my life. In that year, I got a recording deal and released my debut album titled “Kwantu” which went platinum.  I’m also grateful that I got a chance to work with the late music extraordinaire Brown Dash because I learnt a lot from him. Since then my life continues to be blessed with music.

My latest album titled “Mayibuye” is nominated in this year’s South African Music Awards.  I’m so excited to be competing in the Best Afro Pop Album category because I have put my heart and soul into this album. This album is not just about love, relationships and heartaches but it’s also about South Africa’s current situation. I believe that everyone that listens to it will walk away with something special.

I advise upcoming musicians to learn as much as they can about the music industry.  You need to be knowledgeable about the different aspects of the music industry because it’s not just about singing and living a glamorous life. There are many things that happen behind the scenes and all these things can make or break your career if you don’t know what is going on.
