After his pre-sentencing sentence was postponed, Julius Malema led supporters in a stadium chant that included the words ‘shoot to kill, kill the boer, the farmer’, a clip that Elon Musk reshared on X, drawing swift international attention, reports Cape {town} Etc.

The footage shows a packed crowd joining the chant, prompting condemnation from civil society groups and international observers.

Musk previously wrote that a similar clip showed supporters ‘chanting about killing white people’, a post that amplified debate about whether the chant amounts to incitement.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader defended the chant as a struggle song and stated that ‘No one wants to kill White people’, arguing the lyrics reflect historical protest rather than a call to violence.

Farmers and opposition figures described the footage as alarming and called for clearer action from authorities to prevent violence. (Institute of Race Relations) Human rights advocates urged calm and called for investigations that weigh historical context against present-day safety concerns.

The resurfaced video has reignited debate over free speech and public safety in South Africa, with campaigners on several fronts asking police and broadcasters to assess whether the chant crosses legal lines.
