Popular South African television and radio presenter Warrick Stock, famously known as DJ Warras, has been reported dead following a shooting incident in Johannesburg this afternoon.

The news has left the entertainment industry and fans in mourning, amplifying fears about the rising violence faced by public figures in the country.

According to reports from The SABC News, DJ Warras was shot in front of the Carlton Centre, a well-known landmark in the Johannesburg Central Business District.

This sad news arrives just hours after he remained active on social media, posting content that offered a glimpse into what would tragically become his final moments.

Superintendent Xolani Fihla from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) confirmed the shooting, noting that officers were alerted to the incident by members of the public.

‘The department can confirm a shooting incident that happened this afternoon in the Johannesburg CBD. JMPD officers were first respondents to the incident when they were stopped by members of the public who alerted them to the shooting,’ Fihla stated, as per reports by The Citizen.

However, he revealed that there are currently no details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident or the victim’s identity.

The matter is now being investigated by the South African Police Service (SAPS), which is expected to provide further information in due course.

The tragic news of Warras’ passing comes on the heels of his recent emergence in headlines following controversial remarks he made about fellow personalities Cat Matlala and Rachel Kolisi.

Known for his candid opinions and vibrant presence on air, Warras had a significant impact on the South African music and entertainment scene.
