The mother of the grade 10 pupil from Milnerton High School wants the bullies to experience the full might of the law.
Earlier this week, a video went viral showing a group of boys beating a grade 10 pupil using various weapons including a hose pipe, wooden stick, hockey sticks and belts.
Video footage showed the defenseless pupil surrounded by the group of senior learners in what appears to be the school’s locker room before each of the learners later participated in the assault.
Since going viral, many of them have been identified as members of the school rugby team, with some being top performing athletes who have represented both Western Province as well as South African Schools at international level earlier this year.
On Wednesday, the accused made a brief appearance before the Cape Town Magistrates court on charges of eight counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Speaking to Eyewitness News (EWN), the mother of the victim expressed her pain towards the situation.
“I want the law to take its course because it’s a serious, serious case and they’re big boys – 18 years old and 19 years old – and these boys are sixteeen years old, nine of them – because they assaulted nine of them,” she told the above-mentioned source.
Meanwhile, six of the accused have since been granted bail, while the other two were released into the custody of their parents after appearing in a separate court since they are still minors.
