Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has had South Africans letting out a few ‘yoh’s’ of disbelief following his press briefing where he revealed that his dedicated fight against crime has been hindered by a criminal syndicate, implicating notable political and public figures.

Since being appointed as KZN’s Police Commissioner, General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has become the unofficial face of anti-corruption, as he and his men have consistently been making headlines for the impressive work they have been carrying out on the ground. For instance, they were hailed by the public for dealing with Olorato’s gruesome murder case, which took the nation by storm, with the utmost urgency and sensitivity.

The Lieutenant General has captured the hearts of the public once again after reiterating his commitment to combating the crime that has turned South Africa into a corrupted state.  During this press briefing, Mkhwanazi made a number of shocking allegations, including some that implicate Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, as well as a few other notable figures.

Not only did the General allege the existence of a criminal syndicate uncovered during an investigation, he also accused Police Minister Senzo Mchunu of being involved in political interference, particularly disbanding the Political Killings Task Team. Mkhwanazi also made accusations against a few more individuals, including Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, as well as businessman and tenderpreneur Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala, linking them to the derailment of the Task Team’s investigations.
