Brown Mogotsi set to testify at Madlanga Commission

by Staff Bona

North West businessman and alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi is set to testify before the Madlanga Commission on Tuesday regarding claims of political interference in the SAPS.

He will continue giving evidence on Wednesday.

Mogotsi is accused of acting as a link between suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and alleged crime boss Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

The commission is probing allegations that Mogotsi solicited R500,000 from Matlala to cover travel and accommodation for eight ANC members attending a fundraising gala ahead of the party’s January 8 celebrations. In return, he allegedly supplied Matlala with classified police intelligence.

A recording before the commission reportedly contains a voice, believed to be Matlala’s, suggesting the money supported Mchunu’s presidential ambitions.

Mchunu denies any close relationship with Mogotsi, calling him only a “comrade.” Mogotsi has also been linked to Mchunu’s former chief of staff, Cedric Nkabinde.

The ANC has moved to distance itself, claiming Mogotsi’s membership has lapsed — a claim he disputes.

Meanwhile, SAPS has launched its own criminal investigations, including raids on Mogotsi’s business.

Earlier in November 2025, Mogotsi survived a shooting in Vosloorus, though conflicting accounts and lack of forensic evidence have raised suspicions that the attack may have been staged.
