Lack of affection is unfortunately one of the main reasons why many relationships end even after being together for years.

According to research, affection is very important in a relationship, as it helps both partners experience an increased sense of harmony, love, and mutual understanding. Giving, as well as receiving affection, simply helps create a safer and more caring relationship.

When you stop showing affection to your partner, especially in the first few years of the relationship, your partner will feel a sense of rejection. When this happens, they will feel like they are not loved anymore thus slowly distancing themselves or playing games to try get your attention.

Marriage.com suggests these tips on how you can show affection in your long distance relationship:

Express your love for them often

In a long distance relationship, it is important to say the three magic words “I love you” often. It is not abnormal to think that your partner may no longer love you as much as when both of you lived close to each other. That is why it is important to get into the habit of saying the magic words often so that it does not leave room for your partner to feel unloved.

Plan regular surprise visits

A surprise visit indicates your dedication of making the relationship work, your love and the extent to which you are willing to sacrifice to see your partner.

Unbroken commitment

Cheating should never be an option. Communicate with your partner if the long distance relationship is not working out for you anymore. Stay committed and make sure you are loyal and avoid giving in to infidelity under any circumstances.

Schedule daily video calls

Technology has made our lives easier, by making it possible to see and talk to our loved ones in real time even though we aren’t with them physically. Seeing your face will definitely make your partner’s day and keep them happy.

Tag your partner in funny memes

In a long distance relationship, you want to know that your partner is thinking of you daily. Memes are an easy way to remind your partner that you are thinking of them.
